The device operator carries the primary safety duty. Your job as organiser is to pick a competent one, tell them about the site, and keep the paperwork. Here is what that means in practice.
Tell Workplace Health and Safety Queensland
Email whsq.aaa@oir.qld.gov.au at least 3 weeks before your event with the date, bump in and bump out times, the address, the operator's details and ABN, the devices and their registration numbers, and a contact for your committee. An inspector may come and look, which is a good thing.
Sight the engineer's report
Every device needs an inspection within the last 12 months, and a major inspection within every 10 years. For inflatables where riders reach a platform under 9 metres, a competent person can do it. Above 9 metres it must be an RPEQ registered engineer, checkable on the BPEQ register.
Registration is not always required
Most amusement devices need plant and design registration, but inflatables only need it where patrons can reach a platform 3 metres or higher. Where it applies, plant registration runs to 31 January each year. We will tell you which of your booked devices need it.
Anchoring is where inflatables fail
A single ground stake should hold around 230kg of force. Replacing stakes with weights on a paved surface takes far more than most people expect: a sandbag or a 20 litre water drum is only about 20kg each. Never let anyone tie an inflatable to a vehicle. We peg to the manufacturer's specification, every time.
Six metres from the power lines
No part of a device may sit within 6 metres of overhead power lines. If your oval cannot give us that, call Energex on 13 12 53 or Ergon Energy on 13 74 66 before the day, and tell us so we can re-plan the layout.
Public liability, and who needs it
Public liability insurance is not strictly a work health and safety requirement, which surprises most committees. Your school will want it anyway, and so will we: our hire terms ask the hirer to carry cover of not less than $20 million. Our own certificate comes with your booking.

Send us the date and the ground
Your fete date, your postcode and roughly how many students. If you know where on the grounds the inflatables are going, tell us. If you do not, we will help you work it out.

We send the compliance pack
All six documents, plus your site specific risk assessment and the pre filled confirmation sheet, before you have paid anything. Take it to your principal.

Confirm the booking
A $250 deposit secures the date, with the balance due 7 days before the event. Approved schools and government bodies can arrange to pay outside those terms instead. Ask us and we will sort it before you commit.
Two things worth knowing before you order
Standard installation covers up to three inflatables, and each 15 metre section of obstacle course counts as two. A large course or a four unit fete order attracts additional installation labour, so ask us for the full figure rather than adding hire prices together.
Supervisors are charged with a minimum of 4 hours each. Every inflatable needs a trained supervisor present the whole time it is inflated. Many schools staff this themselves with parent volunteers, which is fine by us and by the rules. Tell us which way you are going and the quote will reflect it.
